Sport promotes physical fitness, confidence and friendships. Over 20 sporting activities are available to students at the college. With New Zealand’s top woman rowers training on the Wanganui River right beside the school, it is no wonder that this is a high-profile sport. High class sporting venues around Wanganui are a large advantage for the students to be able to participate with confidence and get the correct training that is needed.
Whether it is Canoe Polo or Volleyball, individual or team sports; all girls are encouraged to gain confidence in the physical abilities. Our facilities alone are second to none; with two well equipped gymnasiums, playing fields, netball and tennis courts and a full sized swimming pool with the only, in use, diving boards left in Wanganui.
A full range of both summer and winter sporting codes are offered, and all students are encouraged to participate in the sporting activities offered. As part of the College’s Inter-House Competition, athletics and swimming competitions are scheduled annually and keenly contested by all students. We also have a programme in place where each house rotates around different activities on a three weekly basis where they compete to gain as many house points as possible at each activity. This helps to encourage physical activity and house spirit and is enjoyed by all, staff included.
