International Study

Wanganui Girls’ College welcomes International students from all over the world. We accept students from Year 9-13 (Forms 3-7). The school seeks to recruit students who have some English language skills. Please refer to see on this website for more information about our school.

Wanganui Girls' College has a boarding hostel, Ad Astra Hostel, within the school grounds. The hostel provides a safe, caring atmosphere with supervised homework. We prefer international students to stay in the hostel at least initially. The Principal and Hostel Manager are in daily contact and this ensures good communication about how students have settled in.

Additional costs in the first year include school uniform and stationery. Hostel students need to be placed in homestays during the school holidays and this costs an additional $1140 for the three term holidays. A further charge each year is $420 for a comprehensive medical and travel insurance. This insurance is compulsory for all international students studying in New Zealand. Students also require some personal spending money for day to day purchases.

We are proud of the care we take of our international students and employ ESOL teachers to look after their English language needs. Our International Liaison Officer helps with visas, setting up bank accounts, travel, holiday programmes and homestays and is available to students and parents at all times. Our international students are encourged to participate fully in all aspects of school life incuding cultural and sporting activities.
