English at Whanganui Girls’ College is a compulsory subject in Years 9, 10, 11 and 12.
Communication skills are key to the study of English and are developed through the three curriculum strands (oral, written and visual language). Information skills and problem-solving skills are essential for learning and are taught at all levels of the English curriculum.
Students need to retrieve, interpret, use, produce and present information in a variety of contexts as a basis for solving problems and making decisions. The English curriculum also recognises the importance of social and cooperative skills for learning and language development.
