Media Studies

Media Studies in Year 12

Media Studies in Year 12 investigates different types of media and also involves producing a media product:

  • Close read unfamiliar media text (feature film)
  • Demonstrate understanding of narrative conventions in media texts (teen film)
  • Design and produce a media product and evaluate the process used to create the product (magazine page)
  • Use technology in media production (magazine page)

There are 2 externally assessed achievement standards and 4 internally assessed achievement standards, with up to 24 credits available in total.

Media Studies in Year 13

Media Studies in Year 13 includes exploration of the following:

  • Explain how meaning is created in media texts (director study)
  • Investigate an aspect of media and explain its significance for New Zealand
  • Complete and justify a concept and treatment for a media product (documentary film)
  • Create a media product using appropriate media technology (documentary film)

There are 2 externally assessed achievement standards and 4 internally assessed achievement standards, with up to 24 credits available in total.
