Senior Mathematics

Mathematics in Year 11

This course focuses on Level 6 of the Mathematics curriculum, revises Year 9 and Year 10 work and introduces several new topics. Students will study topics in the five strands of Mathematics:

  • Algebra
  • Geometry
  • Measurement
  • Number
  • Statistics

Successful completion of all standards associated with this course will contribute up to 28 credits towards the NCEA Level one, with internally and externally assessed components. This includes the 8 credits gained from Year 10.

Mathematics in Year 12

This course focuses on six main areas of Mathematics:

  • Algebra – with an emphasis on manipulative skills and their applications
  • Co-ordinate Geometry – straight lines, circles and parabolas
  • Functions and Graphs – plotting using a graphics calculator, including symmetries
  • Trigonometry – using radians, trig graphs and trig applications
  • Statistics – collecting, displaying and measuring data and probabilities and
  • Calculus – the start of an important branch of Mathematics

Successful completion of all standards associated with this course will contribute up to 24 credits towards the NCEA Level two. The course has both internal and externally assessed components.
